Representatives of the parliamentary group of "Progressive Bulgaria" are in consultations for forming a government with President Iliana Yotova, but the leader Rumen Radev is not present.
At "Dondukov" 2 are Peter Vitanov, Anton Kutev, Vladimir Nikolov and Galab Donev.
"Congratulations on the great success you achieved in the elections. I wish you all the best. I know it won't be easy, but I hope for a new way of working in the institutions," started the head of state.
She turned to Peter Vitanov saying that a great responsibility falls on him, as the parliamentary group will have to defend the trust it has received. "Everything from now on will depend on you.
People will clearly see who will be responsible. I hope you will handle it," Yotova added. The President emphasized that the caretaker government has not fully managed to control prices and support the poorest citizens.
After the result of the parliamentary elections on April 19, our country is in a new political situation. Bulgarians voted for a stable Bulgaria - for a stable government and security in all aspects, including social security for every Bulgarian citizen, security in foreign policy and defense. People voted for a different way of governing the state with more transparency and rules, highlighted Iliyana Yotova.
Usually, during the consultations held over the years, the formation of the future government and the creation of coalitions are discussed. "This time, you have everything in your hands," stated Iliyana Yotova, emphasizing that it is now clear who is responsible for the decisions being made.
The President stressed the need for measures to protect the most vulnerable people, who are struggling with rising prices and imbalances between expenses and income. In this regard, as stated by the President, it is important how the budget for the current year will be handled, which undoubtedly must be the first political task for "Progressive Bulgaria."
"People voted for a different way of governing the state, for interaction not only with institutions, but with all partners in the country and Bulgarian citizens, for more transparency and rules," said Iliyana Yotova, and added that this should also be a priority for the governing majority.
The president stated that the priorities in foreign policy are important, in order for Bulgaria to have a strong voice among its European partners, something that has not happened in a long time.
"We will put an end to the political crisis and respond to the challenges that Bulgarian society wants us to address. We are planning a series of legislative actions that will stop the skyrocketing prices and mass impoverishment. The focus will be on seeking justice. We will propose a package of laws to restore this justice. We are aware of the hidden obstacles as well. We are also aware of the catastrophic situation with public finances," said Peter Vitanov in response.
"The potential budget deficit is a huge problem for us. We have difficult months ahead. "In terms of foreign policy, I want to reassure those critics who are expecting a radical turn - there will be nothing of the sort," he assured.
"One of the first decisions that should be adopted by the National Assembly is a new debt limit, in order for the state to secure payments for pensions, salaries, and social benefits," shared Galab Donev. The head of state is holding consultations today with representatives of parliamentary groups in the 52nd National Assembly.
After the end of the consultations, the head of state, Iliana Yotova, will make a statement.
Wednesday is a day off, and expectations are that on Thursday Yotova will hand over the first mandate to "Progressive Bulgaria." The request from Rumen Radev's party is to go to "Dondoukov" 2 with a full folder and a ready government lineup. If this happens, the new cabinet will most likely take an oath as early as Friday.
