"Revival" issued a statement in parliament about illegal logging in the Baba Aleno area near Varna. According to MP Kosta Stoyanov, this is another proof of corruption at the highest levels of power in our country, with the "ongoing illegal actions of a Ukrainian criminal group" in the area of "Golden Sands".
"For about three years, on an area of hundreds of acres in the Baba Aleno area near Varna, there has been an illegal logging of centuries-old forests without a permit and without compensatory programs. Illegal construction is also taking place in forest areas, with the mandatory information signs required by law for land development missing," the MP pointed out. He emphasized that after "Revival" had reviewed the documents, they officially reported the issue in September 2025. In the prosecutor's office, in the State Agency for National Security, to the Commission for Combatting Corruption and to the parliamentary commission for prevention and combatting corruption. Until now, five months later, we have not received a response, announced Stoyanov, but the illegal logging and construction continued. This looks like a scheme and an organized criminal group and this leads us to political responsibility, it is said in the statement.
"The ruling party since 2023 bears direct responsibility for their inaction towards the Ukrainian group, the municipality of Varna, governed in 2023 by GERB, and now by the mayor of "We Continue the Change - Democratic Bulgaria" (CC-DB), but no decisive actions have been taken to finally stop and remove the "illegal construction", Stoyanov stated.
After a signal from us, the municipality issued an order to stop the construction of the so-called "tolerated buildings" instead of issuing an order to remove illegal construction - a half-hearted reaction that creates a sense of activity without protecting the law and public interest, commented "Revival".
Some of the buildings have even been sold to date, and the buildings have been registered in the cadastre map, continued Kosta Stoyanov. According to the political force, this is a model in which ancient forests are turned into concrete, and in which the authorities turn a blind eye. Here, it is definitely a matter of corruption, "the biggest fraud related to the fight against corruption is by the CC-DB", it is emphasized in the statement.
"Revival" asks if there is interference from a foreign country in our internal and external policies, who and how finances "the huge investments of Ukrainians in Bulgaria" and why does DANS allow wanted Ukrainian citizens in their own country for crimes to come to Bulgaria and do whatever they want. Is our national security at risk, who bears political responsibility that the illegal logging has not been stopped, are there involved municipal and state officials...". As well as "have state officials taken money to continue their inaction until today".
We will insist on a thorough investigation of the actions of the municipal administration in the district of "Primorski" in Varna, the Ministry of Agriculture, the Regional Forestry Directorate in Varna, and the Cadastre Agency, announced Kosta Stoyanov.
