The Academic Council has decided to honor Vice-President Iliana Yotova with the title of Honorary Doctor of the University "St. Cyril and Methodius" in Veliko Tarnovo, according to a press release from the university's press center.
The proposal was submitted by an Initiative Committee chaired by Prof. Nikolay Doykov, who is also the President of the Union of Bulgarian Chitalishta and Deputy Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the University. The university's rector, Prof. Dimitar Dimitrov, presented the proposal at a meeting of the Academic Council.
After considering the proposal, the Academic Council decided to award Iliana Yotova the honorary title of "Doctor Honoris Causa" from VTU "St. Cyril and Methodius", the press release stated. The title is awarded to Iliana Yotova for her contribution to the development of Bulgarian studies and the promotion of Bulgarian culture and spirituality. The honorary insignia will be presented to her at a ceremony on May 12 at the University Aula, reported by BTA.
The justification states that as Vice President, Iliana Yotova is one of the most authoritative advocates for the affirmation and development of Bulgarian education and culture around the world, with a significant personal contribution to the recognition of Bulgarian schools and Bulgarian studies abroad and for their transformation into spiritual centers that bring together the Bulgarian community beyond the borders of the country.
