The government has approved an additional transfer of more than €4.8 million to the Burgas Municipality budget for preparations for and the staging of the Eurovision Song Contest 2027.
The funds will support implementation of the approved schedule, including the timely organization of a test event and the subsequent technical preparations at Arena Burgas.
Burgas was selected by Bulgarian National Television and the European Broadcasting Union to host the 71st edition of the contest. Eurovision 2027 will take place in May next year.
The contest has been described as a platform for public diplomacy and for strengthening Bulgaria’s standing as a key partner in Europe’s cultural and media space. Hosting it is also viewed as a strategic investment with a high return for the host country.
An event of this scale requires extensive organizational, logistical and technical preparations. International practice shows that the contest is delivered through a partnership involving the host country’s public broadcaster, the host city and the government. The government’s responsibilities include institutional coordination, financial support, security and public order.
The Ministry of Culture is also preparing a programme of events accompanying Eurovision 2027. Its aim is to promote Bulgarian culture in Europe and around the world. Culture Minister Evтим Miloshev announced the programme on October 8 during a hearing before Parliament’s Culture Committee.
