"MRF-NEW BEGINNING" wins with an impressive growth in the extraordinary local elections in Pazardzhik, taking first place with a significant lead of 17.13% over the second political force CC-DB, which has 11.75%.
The party of Delyan Peevski has managed to activate 5508 voters in their favor, distributed in all sections covering the entire social spectrum of eligible voters.
For many observers, the surprise is that only 508 votes for MRF came from the sections in the Roma neighborhood "East".
Even before the vote, "MRF-NEW BEGINNING" set a goal to secure several thousand votes. And the goal was achieved, proving once again that Peevski knows how to achieve his goals.
The growth, however, is impressive!
In 2023, The MRF received only 685 votes in Pazardzhik - now they are 9 times more!
The MRF showed nearly a double growth compared to the parliamentary elections in October 2024 - the increase is from 2745 to 5508.
The highest turnout in Pazardzhik so far was registered by the MRF in 2017 - 4193 votes, and the current result of 5508 votes significantly surpasses this achievement.
Today's success is aided by the good selection of candidates for municipal councilors. The list of MRF-NB is led by former GERB deputy Desislava Todorova. Other influential candidates are long-time head of the forestry in Pazardzhik Petar Kostov and former municipal councilor from "EuroRoma" Rayko Zhivkov, leader of BZNS.
In second place is the coalition "We Continue the Change - Democratic Bulgaria" with 11.75% or 3780 votes.
In addition to MRF-NEW BEGINNING, the big surprise of these elections is the party "Freedom", which receives 10.74% or 2807 votes. The leader of the list is Rumen Dimitrov, a former municipal councilor from the group of the former mayor of Pazardzhik Todor Popov.
In fourth place is "BSP - United Left", which has 7.42% or 2064 votes. In fifth place is VMRO - BND with 6.84% or 1963 votes.
Former mayor Todor Popov, who takes 6.84% or 2201 votes with "VMRO-BND", surpassing GERB, is running with a few more lists, two of which will also have representatives in the new municipal council.
The decline of GERB is surprising - 6.16% or 1982 votes, which places them in sixth place. Members and sympathizers of GERB insist on the immediate resignation of the regional chairman Nayden Shopov due to the extremely weak result. In the 2023 elections, GERB were in third place with 8.85% trust, led by CC-DB with 9.93% and the local coalition "New Time", in which Todor Popov participated, with 22.46%.
"Revival" has 3.80% of the vote.
"Greatness", MUH and TISP are below the threshold.
"Greatness" created a real fair on the day of the vote, but this did not help them gain sympathizers.
34,008 voters went to the ballot boxes, which is 35.09% of those eligible to vote.
A record number of candidates participated in the election - 597 for the 41-member Municipal Council.
CC-DB created an escalation of tension in the village of Ognianovo, where observers and politicians held a show with a "citizen's arrest" of three individuals who were allegedly offering money in exchange for votes.
Police stated that during the searches of the vehicles and the three men, no evidence of vote buying was found.
As a result, the operation in Ognianovo did not produce any results and even the CC-DB party did not report any incidents of buying votes.
According to the chairman of the Pazardzhik Regional Election Commission Stefan Dimitrov, no reports of vote buying have been received. "We received mainly reports of illegal campaigning on election day. We have received 20 reports of campaigning through individuals and campaign materials. I personally learned about the case in Ognianovo from the media," he emphasized. He was adamant that "there is not a single report mentioning vote buying in the village of Ognianovo."
The chairman of the Pazardzhik Regional Election Commission also emphasized that the video surveillance was operational everywhere and the cameras were turned off after the signing of the protocols by the PEC members. "There are a lot of errors in the election booklets, but they are mostly due to concern. In some of them, there are incorrectly counted signatures in the voter list."
"We are showing that indeed people not only in the country, but specifically in Pazardzhik, want a new beginning for the city and as a political party, which, I dare say, is the most serious in Bulgaria, we will do everything possible to fulfill what we promised to the people, namely to give a new push for the city and municipality," said Deputy Chairman of MRF-NB Radoslav Revanski.
Mayor of Pazardzhik Petar Kulenski is facing the delicate situation of choosing who to build the necessary majority with:
"I hope for reason among the municipal councilors, so that a solution for important topics for Pazardzhik can be found."
BSP and GERB in a Delicate Situation as They Occupy Fourth and Sixth Place Respectively, Having Previously Participated in the Majority of Mayor Petar Kulenski.
