It's not surprising that Rumen Radev is not and has never been my president.
In the past few weeks, however, Radev lost the right to be a president to anyone.
This is written on Facebook by Daniel Stefanov.
The Constitution of Bulgaria is a very cleverly created document that over the years has shown more and more of its qualities. According to it, the president is a figure who has a specific function to unite society, to cool down passions when they begin to threaten to derail the state. This is a complex function that requires political wisdom, as well as personal nobility, responsibility towards society and an understanding of politics not as a game with zero results, but as an indefinite game (not being a part of the competition).
Rumen Radev has never possessed any of these qualities. Those who deceived conscious voters (among them many of my friends), bear personal responsibility for the decline of Bulgaria in recent years due to Radev's personal ambitions.
Now, however, is the time to save the republic from a person who puts their personal interests above those of the state, society, democracy, and the republic (this was, among other things, my first impression when 11 years ago I met him face to face as commander of the Air Force - there are no rules or boundaries for him).
If anyone has ever thought about setting boundaries in politics, now is the time. Radev cannot and should not be removed from his position. But he should be limited in what he can do and say. He no longer represents anyone else but himself and his spouse. And the attitude of the political parties and analysts towards him should be like this: an intruder, who with political cunning has taken over the most important position in the country.
Secondly, I believe that all those who supported him - directly and indirectly, have no place in the conversation about the new president. Step back a bit. Your wrong judgment brought one of the most serious political mistakes in the country's recent history. I can see that there will be no apology, but taking a step back will at least show some understanding of the guilt.
The nomination and support for Radev must be carefully considered, in order to understand and not repeat the same mistake.
