"We will not participate in tomorrow's vote of no confidence on the topic of corruption in order to support the most important national priority, which is Bulgaria's entry into the eurozone." This was stated by the co-chairman of the parliamentary group of "We Continue the Change - Democratic Bulgaria" (CC-DB) Nikolay Denkov in front of the media in the halls of parliament before the debates on the second vote of no confidence towards the "Zhelyazkov" cabinet on the topic of corruption.
The vote was initiated by the Movement for European Charter and with the signatures of "Revival" and "Greatness", reminded BTA.
"They are trying to present this vote as a choice between the fight against corruption and Bulgaria's entry into the eurozone, when in reality one of the most powerful tools against corruption is to bring all European control mechanisms into Bulgaria, some of which are currently missing," added Denkov.
According to him, if Bulgaria had been part of the eurozone, suspicious individuals would not have been able to withdraw tens of millions of leva in bags and sacks, and to export them without consequences.
It is evident from what is happening in the 51st National Assembly (NA) that there is no anti-corruption majority ready to isolate Delyan Peevski from the unregulated exercise of power - there is none. The debate we will see in the hall will be a smokescreen for the people, comments the co-president of PG Nadezhda Yordanova.
According to her, it seems that there is a pro-Russian majority in the 51st NA, which has become clear from the government's intention not to complete the deal for the sale of the reactors of the Belene NPP project, but to restart it. In her words, this is a "goodwill gesture towards Putin" by Borisov and the ruling party. She raised the question whether this way the Eurozone is not at risk.
At entering the building of the National Assembly, Lena Borislavova, deputy chairman of CC, commented to journalists that the situation is not new and joining the Eurozone remains a priority for CC-DB. If we don't want a repeat of KTB, there is nothing stronger to stop it than for Bulgaria to be in the Eurozone, the European Central Bank (ECB) and its supervision there. We currently see how regulators are being chosen, Borislavova pointed out and added that the regulators and the majority which elects them can't stop a second KTB. One ECB, one supervision, one entry into the Eurozone would put an end to this corruption, she believes.
Lena Borislavova responded that the accusations are not true, that CC-DB, together with "MRF-New Beginning", are supporting this majority. In order for the vote of no confidence to pass, 121 votes are needed. "MRF-New Beginning", together with "There Is Such a People", "BSP-United Left" and GERB-UDF have over 130 votes. Even if we were to support it, this vote of no confidence cannot pass, because Delyan Peevski receives from Borisov what he needs at the moment, the MP added. This government resembles the Triple Coalition a lot, unfortunately, she also said.
According to her, the problem is Borisov himself, who does not want to isolate himself from "MRF-New Beginning". BSP and TISP, who signed the sanitary cordon, also showed that they do not want to isolate themselves in practice, because it is more beneficial for them to have a cozy relationship with Peevski, Borislavova pointed out and added that even during the vote on the budget, the "direct lines" of seven billion, which will be poured into several state-owned companies, became apparent. "We cannot participate with such people in government, given that they have declared their priorities in this way," stated Lena Borislova.
