In the past two weeks, there has been an attempt at some kind of change that ended without any significant changes. But this attempt showed something important, namely, that a major change in a complex configuration, which had been formed, can hardly exist. Borisov initiated a conversation within the structure, which ended with the conclusion that this structure does not have any room for maneuver. This was stated by political scientist from "Trend" Dimitar Ganev on BNT.
According to him, this shows a difficult situation that the partners will face. There is social tension, there will be problems and challenges, but without this maneuverability, they will not be able to respond with enough flexibility, he added.
He pointed out two major challenges for the power. The first one is coming up in a few weeks - the budget.
Even if there are no black swans on the horizon, the next big battle will be the presidential election, he said. Because there, the question will be whether to support or oppose the status quo. That will be the time when the alternative will be declared for the first time.
For Radev, there is no doubt that it would be most beneficial for him to call for early parliamentary elections before the presidential ones, added Dimitar Ganev. But he also pointed out the risks for Radev. He cannot run in these elections, meaning he could support a candidate through an Initiative Committee. Potential loss in this vote and victory for the status quo will put Radev in a difficult position and give a breath of air to the government until the local elections. For Radev, it is important to participate in early parliamentary elections before the local elections, as the local elections are very specific and difficult for a comparative new formation, without active mayors, without organizational infrastructure. While parliamentary elections provide the opportunity to ignite an electoral wave for a relatively short period of time, explained Ganev. He also said that there is a gradual erosion in governance. But there is an unwritten law - when you are in power, your support decreases.
There are no exceptions, the political scientist further explained. In the last two years, the number one problem in the country and the biggest fear of Bulgarians is prices.
If there is a black swan that we can outline, this black swan can swim in the lake of prices. The social tension that is accumulating is laying upon the prices, warned the political scientist from "Trend".
