"On the eve of the Bulgarian Unification, there is a special symbolism and energy in uniting the Bulgarian left," announced interim chairman of BSP Atanas Zafirov.
Zafirov explained that they had been working on this agreement until 11 p.m. last night. "It will not only guarantee our participation in the elections, but it will also bring a good result and a statement not only for participation, but for winning the elections," he said.
We want to propose a left-wing management model not for our own sake, but for the sake of the Bulgarian citizens, Zafirov further emphasized.
We have taken a long and difficult path, despite our differences over the years, we are here allies and we have always strived for this moment. In politics there is no place for the "I", but for the "We". And today we are showing that we can turn this "We" into a motivation for change. And I am happy that this unity from Buzludzha has led to today and the signing of this agreement. "It will not only guarantee our participation in the elections and a good result, but also a claim to winning these elections because we want to offer an alternative to the Bulgarian people," declared Zafirov.
He also defined the coalition as a historic moment, not just a sum of parties and percentages, but a sum of ideas. "They will obstruct and sabotage us, but we are not easily scared.
It will be difficult, but they will not succeed. For two reasons - firstly, because we are greatly underestimated. And secondly, because our ally here are the Bulgarian citizens who demand a real alternative," added the interim chairman of BSP.
Toma Tomov set the goal for the coalition - to gain 30 seats in the 51st parliament.
In June, BSP began a course of unification within the party and closer ties with all formations in the left-wing political space.
The first step towards this unification was the joint celebration of the 133rd anniversary of the start of the Organized Socialist Movement at the Buzludzha assembly, as well as the signing of an appeal to Bulgarian citizens, outlining the main goals of the left-wing unification.
On September 1st, after a meeting of the National Council of the Bulgarian Socialist Party, the acting chairman Atanas Zafirov stated that a coalition agreement between 20 left-center political parties is in the works for joint participation in the elections.
However, the fate of the party's registration for the early elections in October remains unclear. On Sunday, the National Council of the BSP accepted the resignation of party leader Ninova and her closest associates Georgi Svilenski, Ivan Chenchev, and Krum Donchev.
Ninova is still the chairman of BSP through judicial registration, in which she authorized not the temporary chairman Atanas Zafirov, but Svilenski and Chenchev to register the party in the Central Election Commission.
The way out of the complex political situation in which we currently find ourselves seems to be only one - high voter turnout. The elections can take us out of the cycle of interim governments, conflicts in parties, and open the door to a regular government that can govern stably and for a long time by passing key laws for Bulgaria that can no longer be postponed.
