Kevork Kevorkyan:
What is happening to these people, they won't give even five cents, do you believe in them? And as it goes, Jeni Marcheva is ready to start a new segment, "Why did you lie, Mr. Minister?".
Last Sunday, Zapryanov, the Minister of Defense, was a guest on Jeni's segment "Why, Mr. Minister?" on TV channel "Bi Ti Vi".
After the catastrophic failure of the planned show with the two F-16 planes, which are now resting in a hangar, Zapryanov needed to convince the audience and himself that everything else is alright - including the Russian drones flying freely in NATO airspace as if it's their own. And with that attitude, he started to fool the television audience.
Zapryanov on bTV: "We have taken steps to strengthen our surveillance of our airspace in the northeastern direction, with the decision of the defense chief to maneuver forces and resources... Our MiG-29 aircraft are prepared to engage Russian drones if necessary. I tell people to remain calm, we are taking measures. NATO is taking measures, surveillance will be strengthened to protect people from such concerns" (end of quote).
This is NATO - a version for poor countries: we will use Russian planes to shoot down Russian drones?!
As a former communist, Zapryanov should know that Russians are experts in deceptive maneuvers and at least suspect that something is not right with this overly symmetrical combination.
To clarify something - you may not be aware of a fact from Zapryanov's official biography: "In 1982 he obtained a master's degree in military affairs from the "Budioni" Military Academy of Communications, Leningrad, USSR, with an excellent diploma and a golden medal"/according to Wikipedia/.
At that time, the Soviet "empire of evil", though led by the senile Brezhnev, is still powerful and its opponents have no other choice but to hope for its self-destruction, which eventually happens.
And I - even before starting to write this letter - didn't know about this fact, about this Russian weed in the glorious NATO biography of Zapryanov. And it never crossed my mind that he, if we decorate him artistically, was from the cavalry of Marshal Budyoni - at least in his youth, but just then, when the longings of the heart make him most authentic, whatever happens later is not as impressive.
Now we have to learn that "The Red Cavalry" - the brilliant work of Isaac Babel, which has turned into an unparalleled denial of violence - has already become the favorite reading of our people - and to accept this as a partial rehabilitation of him. But our actions are simply impossible: we have provided so many converts to our new partners - as if on a silver platter - and they continue to pretend to believe us. “
In this case, I am not referring to Zapryanov himself, as I do not know him well enough - however, he displays an impressive, almost impeccable naivety, both "back then" and in our days.
Here's how. Just a few hours after the interview with Jeni, in which Zapryanov threatened to fight the enemy drones - whether he was using bombs or counting them, it was not entirely clear - a comment from Colonel Engineer Rumen Stoyanov appeared on Facebook - a first-class military pilot and instructor, who served at the Bezmer airbase and the airport in Dolna Mitropolia /I quote from obektivno.bg. Pilot Stoyanov did not hesitate to be blunt with the minister:
"Who will fly the MiGs if our pilots are not trained for low-altitude flights with attacks on small, slow-moving targets...” Such training was only available to a few first-class pilots, because the risk of suicides during such missions is enormous... The latest, and trained Ukrainian pilots, both on Su-27, and MiG-29, and F-16, committed suicide while executing this task" (end of quote).
So who will you believe after this endless dispute - the pilot or the minister, who is also a construction worker and should be more merciful towards the Russian MiG-29, if you will, and also because of a sentimental reason.
Moreover, one drone costs about ten-fifteen thousand dollars while an air-to-air missile, used to take down drones, is worth 400 thousand dollars. Well, how much does a MiG-29 cost - it is important to know, if because of the stubbornness of one minister, someone blows up a neighborhood while chasing Mikhalia - that is, the cursed Russian drone. And more: Do we know how our MiG jets were bought, when it happened, if they were paid for at all and under what conditions? However, we know nothing about this. What we do know, however, is something else: we have prepaid billions for F-16s, for the pleasure of being entertained by the endless twists and turns in their delivery - for now, this is all. It seems fair.
On top of everything, according to some European media, NATO lacks good defense against drones - and this claim seems credible, given that out of the 19 drones that recently entered Polish airspace, only 7 were shot down.
According to Politico, NATO is not ready for Russian drones. Even more alarming is the conclusion by the Financial Times, which states that the Alliance has only 5% of the air defense needed to protect Bulgaria and the countries in the eastern flank.
Because of all this, I began the letter with the suspicion that Zapryanov and all from his breed of ex-communists do not give a damn if you believe them or not. Simply put, they consider you idiots - even the skilled people in aviation who will undoubtedly send you to your death while chasing drones with MiGs.
Zapryanov spewed his nonsensical remarks just around the anniversary of the death of military pilots Ventsi Dunkin and Petko Dimitrov - they intervened in this drama somehow, pointing the blame at the pilots themselves, accusing them of all sorts of violations, conveniently forgetting that in the nine months of 2024 they only had 50 hours of "fly time" - the standard requirement being no less than 80 hours, and specifically, NATO requires pilots to spend a minimum of 180 hours in the air.
It is unclear why the Alliance is turning a blind eye to this obvious discrepancy, in which our military aviation has fallen and which simply leads to a trick with death. Zapryanov also owes this answer to the idiots.
In fact, one of the accusations against the two deceased pilots is that they incorrectly calculated the "altitude reserve" when performing a complex maneuver from their flight task.
The "idiots" have certainly understood immediately what is at stake - it remains for the minister, who is ready to send our MiG's, along with their pilots - with a very small altitude reserve - to play with Russian drones. Perhaps this is also the reason why the Americans are making fun of us with "our" F-16's, constantly postponing their delivery - such skillful "partners" do not deserve such toys.
It remains to be understood and something else: in Bulgarian affairs the problem is not just the lack of "height reserve", that is, the lack of a thoughtful perspective in our endeavors. There is also something else, even more harmful. And that is, that we are subject to an endless reserve of nonsense that is practically suffocating us.
And soon it will ultimately kill us.
