"The votes of no confidence in us, and in the EP, resemble each other, but in the EP this time there was something unique - said MEP from "Revival" Peter Volgin on BNT. - For the first time, two votes of no confidence were held simultaneously, prepared by two groups that are very different.
One group was the "Left" in the EP, the other group is the "Patriots for Europe", where the party of Marine Le Pen, the Italian "League", and the party of Viktor Orban are. "Volgin explained that the two groups vote on most issues very differently, have different ideas, but this time they come out with the same request. They want this European Commission to go away."
The votes of no confidence did not succeed. The majority is very strong, formed by the EPP, socialists and democrats, liberals, greens, and others. Volgin clarified that he and his colleagues from the "Europe of Sovereign Nations" group voted for both motions of no confidence because when it comes to the future of the EU, all small party quarrels should take a backseat.
Regarding the leading parties' observation that George Meloni's group is turning out to be more aligned with the European Commission than the opposition, the Bulgarian Member of European Parliament added that Mrs. Meloni actually gravitates towards the ruling parties, as she has since the very beginning. "She is a very interesting case -" said Volgin. - "Because when her party was in opposition in Italy, she presented herself as almost a Hungarian Viktor Orban, as a person who would be very critical towards a number of EU policies, and she was quite feared in Brussels." "But in the moment she took power, everything suddenly turned around and Ms. Meloni became a strong pillar of the status quo." Volgin explained that such political behavior is not fair to the voters and contributes to the apathy towards the political process, which is observed in our country.
There were expectations for a Trumpist revolution in Europe, but it did not happen, as reminded by the leading journalists on BNT. Why? "It turns out that the current leadership of the EU is very favorable towards Donald Trump. When he came to power in the USA, from the side of the top figures in Brussels, as well as in the EP, there were many people who had a critical attitude towards him." However, do you remember that tariff agreement? Everything Donald Trump says is accepted one to one by Ursula von der Leyen, so why would the Americans, who are now in control, want changes in the EU, it's perfectly arranged, there is nothing that jeopardizes American policy. Critics of Trump in the EP have become his admirers. It is possible that this is situational and they are waiting for his mandate to pass, but either way they fulfill his wishes,” rhetorically responded Volgin.
He also explained that this role of the EU is very sad, simply fulfilling someone else's tasks. Europe is in the background in everything, he continued his thesis. “For example, in the Gaza agreement, we saw that Europe had no role. Europe has no role in the attempted peace in Ukraine. Europe has no role in anything. "This is very sad, because the continent from which the greatest ideas in science, politics, and philosophy have come is now struggling in the fifth or sixth division. From Europe, we cannot expect anything meaningful. Everything comes from the fact that the ruling elite of the EU is composed of people who, for the most part, do not have the qualities for it. These are people who are good at carrying out orders, but unfortunately have no vision, no strategy for the future. They are chosen according to the principle of anti-selection. The more incompetent a person is, the higher they are pushed up and given high positions." As long as this principle is applied, we cannot expect the EU to play a major role, Volgin emphasized.
Concerning the situation in Bulgaria and the fears from the eurozone, Petar Volgin said that the prosperity of a country does not depend on the currency it uses. There are countries that are doing very well and are members of the eurozone, as well as countries that are doing well without being members of the eurozone. It does not depend on where you are, it depends on the state of society, the economic, financial, and political system. Bulgarian officials should have been working on entirely different priorities, not on joining the eurozone. Until we fix our country as a structure and have truly conscious policies, Bulgaria will continue to sink, as it is sinking now, drown or not have enough water, and all of this will happen regardless of which club we are in, the eurozone or outside of it, Volgin concluded.
