Turkey has traditionally been one of Bulgaria's leading economic partners in terms of trade and investment. Deepening economic cooperation and trade relations is important for both countries.
Prime Minister Rosen Zhelyazkov stated this during his meeting with Republic of Turkey's Minister of Trade, Yomer Bolat.
As promising areas for bilateral cooperation, Prime Minister Zhelyazkov pointed out innovation, digital infrastructure, green and low-carbon energy technologies. During their conversation, the two also noted the bilateral trade, which reached a record level of 7.7 billion euros in 2024.
The meeting at the Council of Ministers highlighted the excellent interaction in a number of areas. Turkey is not only our neighbor, but also an ally in NATO and an important partner in areas such as transport, energy supplies, trade, fight against terrorism, and illegal migration, Prime Minister Rosen Zhelyazkov noted.
According to him, the cooperation between Bulgaria and Turkey in the field of migration is of particular importance not only for Bulgaria, but also for the entire European Union. The possibilities for cooperation in the defense industry were also discussed during the meeting.
In connection with the intensive traffic at the border points between the two countries, Prime Minister Zhelyazkov emphasized the need for both sides to make efforts to ease border control procedures and increase the capacity of the border points between the two countries. At the same time, Zhelev emphasized the commitments that our country has fulfilled since becoming a full member of the Schengen area at the beginning of this year.
