For just four days, Bulgaria experienced the heavy provocation known as "Radev's euro referendum". The blow was so unexpected and shocking that it immediately sobered up the systemic political formations in our country, as well as the business sector, trade unions, legal community, and political thought.
Suddenly, everyone realized how the highest level of the state could be dealt a devastating blow, wiping out everything achieved in the last 35 years.
And they took action.
It has been a long time since such a powerful unity has emerged in the country against Evil, emanating from "Dondukov" 2. The right, the left, the center, those in power and part of the opposition came together to tame the destructive hysteria that the head of state unleashed upon the country. Because, let's face the truth - Radev did not aim for a referendum or a debate with the people about the benefits and drawbacks of the euro. If he wanted, he could have done it a long time ago, when it would have had a real effect. But back then, he was defending the euro.
Radev knew that his provocation would not pass. It was impossible to pass.
And that wasn't his goal.
Radev wanted once again to humiliate the government of Borisov in front of Europe, that they don't listen to the voice of the people and have no support; he wanted to put the new leadership of the BSP to a test in front of his voters; he wanted to sow division among the right wing; he wanted to find out what kind of electorate he personally can count on. It was so transparent!
With "Botash" around his neck, this was the only move before the end of his term in a year and a half. A risky move! A pure adventure!
Radev wanted to break everything in order to remain the sole savior of the nation. Because of this madness, born out of panic, the head of state suspended the Constitution, disregarded international agreements signed by Bulgaria, manipulated public opinion, and in the end, dug yet another deep hole in the already divided Bulgarian society.
What is this called?
There will surely be many definitions. Naturally, many will say it is national treason, that someone has "pressed his button" and will think of impeachment. They are probably right. But an impeachment will make Radev a martyr. And he is not one. Furthermore, this is not the first time he has trampled on the Constitution.
I call it treachery. A small, vengeful soul, who could not see himself as a great national leader, because instead of uniting, he sowed division and everyone turned away from him. The BSP and Ninova, who had once elevated him to the first pedestal in the republic, turned away from him; the right-wing parties, who had recognized him as their patron in their battle against Borisov, also turned away; even his "charlatans," whom he had touted as the desired "change," turned away from him; and the business world, which he had cunningly courted to use for his own gain, also turned away.
Radev was left utterly alone.
It turned out that he was neither a politician, nor a statesman; he did not learn that the public stage is not a military barracks, where orders are given.
Radev did not understand that the public fabric rejects dictatorship and false leadership, which he tried to impose.
Radev really wanted to rule the country, just like he ruled the plane, but he failed. Due to political incompetence, inherent intrigue and enormous ego that pushed people away from him. No circle of intelligent, capable Bulgarians, influential figures, wise men with their own opinions was created around him. Everyone is running away from him. Scandals, suitcases, rifts and NO CONSTRUCTION are left behind him. Radev's two terms are the lost time of Bulgaria.
And now, after this total political failure, neither the Americans, nor the Russians, nor the Europeans will share the political poverty of a head of state.
No one loves the defeated.
Radev becomes unnecessary to anyone.
No European president has ever suffered such a devastating blow to their domestic political standing and has been adorned with the reputation of a destroyer of constitutional norms of statesmanship in front of the world.
Now all that remains for him is "Botash", for which he will have to answer. And those around him who got him into this trap.
He won't even be able to form a party because "his" territory is overcrowded. And how does one create a party after such a "political slap"? Who will be his allies, who will join him in pursuit of power?
And yet there is something POSITIVE as a result of this drama that Radev has caused for the country. The healing processes in the state are starting to take hold.
First of all, the party system has shown resilience. Radev's attempts for years to destroy the party fabric of Bulgaria have ended in failure. The parties, with all their problems, contradictions and hostilities, stood against the DESTRUCTOR. And they managed to show resilience, adequacy and reactivity.
Second. The government has stabilized. The three parties, despite their ideological discrepancies, united and opposed the attempts at sabotage. And now they must concentrate on the tasks of governing and the attacks of the opposition.
Third. The government will take into account its mistakes both in the advertising campaign to simply explain to people the benefits of the euro, and in the legislative activity for the fast adoption of all laws and mechanisms to make the transition from the euro to the lev smooth and tolerable.
Because the communication problem proved to be the gap through which the "Radev referendum" tried to sneak through. The ruling party has wasted time delving into the entire discussion "for" and "against" the introduction of the euro on a household level. The efforts of the government should not be directed towards the supporters, but towards the opponents of the euro and breaking the manipulations that do not correspond to the truth, and bringing to light the real problems that will accompany our lives with the euro in our pocket.
