The government strictly adheres to its commitments in the process of adopting the single European currency, in order to achieve a smooth transition. This was stated by Prime Minister Rosen Zhelyazkov during his meeting with the Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund Kristalina Georgieva. The two spoke at a high-level conference held today at the "Boyana" residence, reported the Government Information Service. Zhelyazkov and Georgieva agreed that adopting the euro is a historic step for our country. The Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund congratulated Bulgaria on its achievements and pointed out that it is crucial for the adoption of the euro to be combined with the implementation of reasonable policies.
During the conversation, alongside the process of a successful introduction of the Euro, Prime Minister Zhelyazkov highlighted the consistent efforts of the cabinet towards economic growth and financial discipline. Improving competitiveness is also a focus in the government's policies, both at a national level and in the European context, the prime minister emphasized.
