NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg will visit the Novo Selo training area on December 19, announced the Ministry of Defense (MoD). Stoltenberg will meet with acting Defense Minister Atanas Zapryanov, the political and military leadership of the MoD and will familiarize himself with the activities of the multinational Battle Group with framework nation Italy, of which our country is the host.
Stoltenberg and Zapryanov are expected to make statements for the media representatives at the Novo Selo training area.
The strengthening of NATO's defense capabilities in the current complex security environment, the war in Ukraine and assistance to Kiev, and the complex situation in the Black Sea region were discussed at a meeting in Brussels between caretaker Minister of Foreign Affairs Ivan Kondov and NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) reported.
The importance of building transportation corridors to ensure NATO's defense capabilities in Southeast Europe was confirmed. Stoltenberg praised Bulgaria's efforts in the defense sector, as stated in the announcement.
In late May 2024, former NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg also visited Bulgaria. He was in Sofia for the spring session of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Alliance.
Bulgaria is highly valued as a reliable ally in NATO. We highly appreciate Bulgaria's contributions over the past twenty years of membership in terms of collective defense and shared security, said Jens Stoltenberg.
