Scandal in the energy committee in the parliament after the trade unions demanded a hearing of the acting line minister Traicho Traikov because of his proposal to split BEH and remove the TPP "Maritsa Iztok 2" and the mines from the holding.
Dimitar Manolov, chairman of KT Podkrepa said:
"We find this thing to be disastrous, something that is able to not only put the Bulgarian energy industry at risk and finally end it, and our appeal is that, just as yesterday you accepted that document with full unanimity, so today with full unanimity you reject forever this idea of a similar restructuring of BEH."
Valentin Valchev, KNSB added on the topic:
These decisions are harmful for the Bulgarian workers, for the Bulgarian energy industry, for the Maritsa-Iztok complex, and therefore we insist, we ask you to make this decision not to implement this proposal to exit the BEH structure of the Maritsa-Iztok mines and the Maritsa 2 thermal power plant."
Valentin Nikolov, chairman of BEH, also weighed in on the problem:
"In principle, BEH was always worried from the point of view of the division of the holding, as you said, in relation to the two bond loans - one of 600 million euros, the other, which was successfully placed last year of 800 million euros."
Official Minister Traicho Traikov argued:
"Such decisions will not help either Maritsa Iztok 2 TPP or the mines. You tell me how it will help because financial resources are needed and I have made an estimate of what is needed and where it can be found. And until this plan is concrete in financial terms, I would not take further steps, but there is one absolutely certain thing, a consequence of such a decision - that not a single euro will be received from the fourth payment.
Epicenter.bg recalls that only a day before the BEH scandals, Traicho Traikov discussed our energy sector in detail with the Ukrainian ambassador!
BEH's liabilities are huge and many experts in the field have been warning for years that the company is on the verge of bankruptcy. The debt of BEH is equal to the annual budget of the entire "Security" sector - BGN 2 billion and 300 million. BEH refinanced its loans, creating a debt spiral, energy experts said some time ago.
