The Bulgarian Weightlifting Federation has been rescued and fears of bankruptcy are now in the past.
This was declared by president Stefan Botev for Sportal.bg.
The Federation has been saved. Today I had a meeting with Delyan Peevski, who was my last hope for finding a solution to our problems. So far, the people who have promised help have disappeared when it was time to give money, Stefan Botev emphasized.
Mr. Peevski is not a sponsor, but the Federation will receive the necessary funds from him to start the repayments according to the repayment plan to the institutions. The Weightlifting Federation owes money to the Ministry of Youth and Sports, as well as to various companies for the organization of the European Championships.
The debt to the National Revenue Agency is now less, around 10,000 leva.
"With this recovery plan that we will follow, we can safely say that the federation has been saved.
From now on, it is very important to emphasize that we will conduct an internal investigation and seek accountability from those who are proven to have stolen money from the federation and led it to this state. We will definitely not rest easy just because we have found the money and the worst is over," shared Botev with Sportal.bg.
As Epicenter.bg reported earlier, the leader of "MRF- New Beginning" and businessman Delyan Peevski took on the task of saving the Bulgarian Weightlifting Federation from bankruptcy. The declaration of insolvency has been postponed by a month by the Sofia City Court and the next hearing of the case is set for February 25th, which gives new chairman Stefan Botev hope that he will save the sport. Just a day later, the former world champion met with Peevski and both committed to "finding a solution to overcome the crisis and working together with the Bulgarian weightlifters, in one team for Bulgaria".
Initially, the BWTF needs 60,000 leva for the repayment of the debt to the Ministry of Youth and Sports, which is a barrier to signing a financing agreement with the department. Additionally, around 40,000 leva per month is needed to pay off obligations to other creditors.
A potential bankruptcy would lead to a practical freeze of sports in our country for several years, as a new organization would have to be established and go through the procedures for obtaining a license from international structures. This would exclude Bulgarian weightlifters from major competitions.
"If we go bankrupt, not only Carlos Názar, but also all our athletes are free to flee, because there is no lack of interest towards them," stated Marin Milashki, a member of the board. "I constantly talk to Carlos, he is a great patriot and has never thought that he would have to lift for another country. Even if the worst happens to the federation, he will stay and wait for the next one to continue lifting for Bulgaria."
