"After an official request to the National Statistical Institute (NSI), it became clear that the consumer price index, according to the national methodology as of December 31, 2025, is 5%, while the harmonized index of consumer prices - the index that measures inflation in all EU countries, is 3.5%," stated the outgoing finance minister Temenuzhka Petkova, according to Dariknews.
The government will take the necessary actions and implement this regime, which is more favorable for Bulgarian citizens, and will index the one-time bonuses for all by 5%. This will be discussed at the next meeting of the Council of Ministers. We are working to make this happen as quickly as possible, Petkova added.
"I would just like to remind you of the baseline from which we start in terms of inflation, during the period when Mr. Asen Vasilev was the finance minister." This is 2022, when the inflation, according to consumer prices in Bulgaria, is 16.9%. The inflation according to the harmonized index of consumer prices for 2022 is 14.3%, "stated Petkova.
In 2025, compared to 2024, the minimum wage will increase by 15.4%, and the average wage will increase by 11.8%. So there can be no talk of any impoverishment of Bulgarian citizens, explained the finance minister.
