The contract with the Turkish company Botas is an example of financial extravagance, GERB lawmaker Temenuzhka Petkova said on the television program “Face to Face” on bTV. “If there is any financial extravagance, it is the scandalous contract with Botas,” she said.
Petkova accused the political forces associated with governing over the past five years of being part of the problem rather than part of the solution. She also commented on the Audit Office’s report concerning the Road Infrastructure Agency, which she said had identified serious financial violations.
In her words, the aim had been to shift responsibility for the problems onto previous governments. Regarding the certificates that had been identified, the lawmaker said the Management Board had not approved the expenses and that they had not been accepted.
Petkova linked the financial irregularities to what she described as incompetent governance of the country. She also criticized actions concerning funds in the second pension pillar.
The lawmaker said the governing parties had misled the public and should apologize. In her view, the aim was to reduce the deficit of the National Social Security Institute by taking over accounts from private pension funds. “This is pure nationalization,” Petkova said, expressing her assessment of the proposed changes.
She rejected claims that the opposition was acting hysterically. If such tension existed, she said, it was among those in power.
Petkova also discussed inflation. She said Bulgaria ranked second in the European Union on this indicator and that inflation had reached 6 percent in October.
The lawmaker linked the price increases to energy costs and said higher expenses were being passed on through the prices of goods and services. She added that small-business representatives were deeply concerned about the expected increases because consumers ultimately bear the final impact.
