The United States is close to reaching a trade agreement with Canada, American President Donald Trump said in an interview with Fox News.
“Canada is a great country, we will make a deal with them soon. We are going to make a great deal,” Trump said.
In recent months, the two countries imposed reciprocal tariffs on goods worth billions of dollars. The US tariffs on Canadian products became a subject of debate in several northern American states bordering Canada, including Michigan and Maine, ahead of the US midterm elections.
On Sunday, Trump and Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney said they had discussed a possible trade agreement. The American president said the deal would be “great for our farmers.”
Carney wrote on the social network X that teams from both countries would work over the coming weeks to achieve that goal.
