A highly unexpected clash that shatters the biggest myth of the transition in Bulgaria

Valeria Veleva: The Philosopher Phenomenon ends in just 10 months. How did this happen? (PART 1)

A long, difficult and emotionally exhausting period is coming, in which DPS will have to divide from itself. And Dogan will watch as his creation dies, crushed under the weight of his mistakes

On May 27, 2025, Delyan Peevski became the sole legitimate leader of the MRF, after a dramatic battle with the founder and honorary chairman of the party, Ahmed Dogan.

How did this happen, what processes unfolded behind the scenes in this party, I will try to tell in a series of consecutive publications.

FIRST PART - THE SPLIT

In the middle of 2024, amidst the heat and on the eve of the 35th anniversary of the beginning of the changes, the most iconic party born in the dawn of transition - the MRF - was shaken by a powerful scandal.

At its peak, an unexpected, unheard of in its sharpness and unsuspected in the size of the resulting processes, dramatic rift occurred between the honorary chairman Dr. Ahmed Dogan and his political "son", "heir", confidant and financial patron Delyan Peevski. Both strong players, with pronounced egos, with a wide range of influence in the country and unwavering steadfastness in the righteousness of their actions and decisions. The rupture was so spectacular that it left the entire party leadership in the country in shock.

The Philosopher's rage fell upon the Phenomenon, whose retaliatory blow turned out to be stunning. The audience, stunned by the scale of the duel, watched in awe the biblical clash of titans and couldn't figure out why it happened, where the genesis was and what was to come.

For many years I have been observing the processes in MRF, I know both Dogan and Peevski and my first public assessment was categorical: This is the end of MRF - as we know it in the last 35 years. This is the end of this party and the end of the "Dogan" myth, which is also the last myth of the transition.

SIX MONTHS LATER, MY PREDICTION BECAME A REALITY

Dogan lost like no other political leader in our country - he had a solid party, climbed to the top as the second parliamentary force with 47 deputies and a chance to enter the government with a red carpet. It's gone now.

Dogan lost influence among his ethnicity - he allowed brother to stand against brother, breaking a solid party formation that many saw as an example.

Dogan also lost personally - the Phenomenon defeated him on the political field. The "Dogan" myth is now finally going into oblivion, and history will only give an assessment of the failure of the "Dogan" project.

Peevski Wins, Despite Division, Succeeding in Last Parliamentary Elections in October 2024 with 30 Members of Parliament, Surpassing BSP, While Dogan Remained at the Tail with 19.

The battle was fierce.

It began on July 3, 2024 and ended on May 27, 2025.

HOW DID ALL THIS HAPPEN

On May 8, 2023, Dogan came out with a cryptic greeting to the leader of MRF, Mustafa Karadayi. He called him "dear" and wished him to "find the measure." For those familiar with the subtleties in MRF, the use of "dear" by Dogan meant one thing - the designated traveler. A signal had been given in the party that the eight years of stagnation, timelessness, and arrogant attitude of the leader towards the structures were coming to an end. Karadaiy had made every effort to drive away everything that was intelligent, capable, and educated from the party's leadership. The parliamentary group was impersonal, and local activists were removed from positions of power.

Dogan knew all of this, but did not take any measures to change it because Karadaiy was convenient for him - another puppet at the top of MRF, who served as the honorary chairman in pushing forward his personal interests.

A month later, Delyan Peevski appeared in parliament, a deputy who for a decade did not step out into the light or set foot on the parliamentary carpet, although he had been elected as an MP throughout that time.

Peevski opened the doors of the National Assembly with a bang and said: "MRF will no longer be isolated, I can govern and I will show you how." And he did - he opened parliament in the morning and closed it in the evening. In negative times, he became so influential that nothing could happen in the country without his word. MPs from the ruling coalition CC-DB initially greeted him with distrust, but later saw that he could solve problems on the go, providing solutions for even the most critical situations, and rallied around him. They started - in the morning, meeting over coffee with Peevski and allocating tasks, at lunch - signing legislative bills together with Peevski, and in the evening, discussing with Peevski what the government would do the next day. In a short period of time, Peevski achieved something essential - he became a partner to our Euro-Atlantic allies, who saw that his word carries weight, that he can tame our inadequate politicians, and that he will steer the government in the right direction amidst today's geopolitical tumult. To everyone's surprise, Peevski turned out to be the prepared man for managing the heavy balances in the unregulated political processes in our country, especially in the relations between GERB-UDF and CC-DB. This made him a natural leader in the parliamentary group of MRF.

Dogan observed this process, sometimes with mockery, sometimes with mistrust - what will Delyan do, who will accept him... after all, he has a past that weighs heavily. In the middle of August 2023, Dogan called me on the phone and expressed admiration for Peevski's scope. Then in our conversation, discussing Peevski's qualities, for the first time the definition appeared that he is a phenomenon because he has managed to surpass his demonization, to bring MRF to the forefront and become a parliamentary factor that everyone takes into account. It was not mentioned that he could become party leader. It is likely that Dogan has not even entertained the possibility of Peevski asking for the position of official leader of the party.

For Dogan, the role of Peevski as a behind-the-scenes player was very convenient - it was known that for more than a decade, Peevski practically supported the party, paid for the campaigns, sustained the honorary chairman, paid for his security, for his buildings, for his various desires to develop businesses, and ensured that there were no problems. And Dogan has none. The myth is alive. His existence is secured. Throughout all these years, their tandem has been impenetrable. "The Junior" learns from "The Senior", but the latter does not let "The Junior" take the spotlight because there are shadows over his reputation.

THE JUNIOR DECIDES TO CLAIM HIS OWN PLACE

However, at one point "The Junior" decides that this no longer satisfies him, that he has been paying for too long due to the imposed stigma, and it is time to come out into the light and prove himself. And he did it. This caused the drift.

When Peevski decided he was ready to face the public, Dogan was unprepared to accept this fact. "The Junior" wanted to claim his place, for which he had been working in the shadows for years. His decision was well thought-out, with a plan in place and no one could stop him.

Dogan had missed the moment when Peevski overtook him and claimed his own place.

Peevski started to conduct the parliament and became the absolute ruler of the group. Karadayy felt isolated and insisted on stepping down. He sent 7-8 resignations to Dogan, but he rejected them. Dogan understood very well that Karadayy was exhausted, but he couldn't find a suitable puppet to replace him, so he didn't let him go. And Peevski became unstoppable. Deliberately, he appears in the news every day, during prime time, dictating the order of the country and gradually the structures of MRF begin to recognize him as the new factor in the party and the country.

Dogan tried to stop him, but failed.

Peevski's arguments are strong- the party is in stagnation, the structures are weak, and MRF voters are leaving for abroad- this needs to change if we want to improve people's lives. However, in order to participate in the legitimate leadership of parliament, Peevski, who until now has been an ordinary member of parliament, needs a position. And he takes it.

On October 16, 2023, in the midst of the campaign for local elections, the media were surprised by the announcement from the MRF press center that Peevski had become co-chair of the parliamentary group of the MRF, sharing the position with Mustafa Karadayi, who is still the leader of the MRF. Dogan was against it. However, Peevski comes out again with arguments - our campaign is a failure, Karadayi will not achieve anything, the central office is empty. The two have had multiple conversations, clashing positions. Peevski is adamant that he should take the lead of the party and bring it out of lethargy. Dogan tries to stop him. Peevski's firm position is met with the absurd response: "It is absurd to continue this way. We will lose everything. We cannot let the party fail." And decides to take action through the head of honor. Energetically. With a swing. Takes first power in the parliamentary group.

KARADAYI OUSTED

Karadayi learns that half of his parliamentary power has been taken away while traveling on the party bus, campaigning for the elections. The next day he returns quietly to Sofia.

Then Peevski starts travelling around the country. In the last two weeks of the campaign, he made three stops between MRF municipalities, met with mayors, activists, ordinary people and rallied the party. People saw in him an energetic leader who followed through on whatever he said. And the result came.

In the local elections, MRF increased its presence, won significant municipalities and this gave an impetus to the system.

"The party has asked me. There are many things that need to be done." Dogan could no longer control this process alone. The party proved to be stronger than Dogan. It is a living organism, it wanted to grow, to fly - and I made it fly, which he never managed," Peveski told me then.

In other words, the party saw in Peveski a chance to regain positions that Karadayu had lost and for which Dogan had no interest in fighting. This is how the logo - NEW BEGINNING - was born. Peveski turned out to be an engine of initiatives, a machine on the ground, a balancer in political and interpersonal relations.

A day after the end of the elections, on November 7th, Karadayi resigned as chairman of MRF, despite his term ending on December 12th. This caused stress, because someone urgently had to replace him. In the open power vacuum, Dogan has returned - announcing that he will take over the operational leadership of the party until the National Conference, after not doing so since 2013.

Instead of imposing an energetic pace of work, Dogan held only one meeting of the Central Executive Committee, at which he heard the candid statements of representatives of the party elite and understood the political poverty to which the organization was brought by Mustafa Karadayi. He understands the challenging work ahead. And he got scared. Field work is unfavorable, it requires a lot of time, energy and resources. And he had long left this lifestyle.

A PHENOMENON WAS BORN

On 11/17/2023, Dogan scheduled a meeting of the Central Executive Committee. Everyone expected to see him there. He did not appear. In his style.

Send a written position to the Central Council of MRF, in which he wrote: "Delyan Peevski is a phenomenon in Bulgarian politics in the last 5-6 months. With his hyperactivity, resourcefulness, and mediation skills, he managed to bring the center of power back to the Bulgarian parliament. And from being one of the most criticized, he became a significant partner for all parliamentary groups." And he let him prove himself in the party. And that's exactly what Peevski wanted. The horizon was open for him.

First, he dealt with the reputational problem. He resolved it with those who had destroyed his reputation over the last 10 years. Everyone saw his workaholism, his organizing qualities and something very important that many politicians lack - his stable knowledge of how the state machinery functions.

"In just two months, Peevski's reputation was "whitewashed" by the same political elite that previously publicly denounced him," wrote Petar Cholakov in a comment for Deutsche Welle.

"Peevski is "getting back" at all those who constantly insulted him by taking on the role of spokesperson for the MRF. It is his right," explains the behavior of MP Rosen Plevneliev.

In the media of Prokopiev, there was nothing negative about the MP, who until recently was showered with mud.

In the forum of "Dnevnik" I read:

"- It is obvious to everyone that without Mr. Peevski, the right democratic forces will not be able to carry out a successful judicial reform, restart the constitutional republic, remove Geshev, etc., etc.

- In the end, it depends on Mr. Peevski whether we will defeat that green sock, that ear-flap President Radev!

- So, please! It is extremely urgent for the civic forum to forget words like Shishi, questions like WHO? and etc., because they serve Putin's propaganda!"

And so, before everyone's eyes, Delyan Peevski began to write his own political history, rehabilitated based on his qualities by his former political executioners.

From a psychological point of view, it was interesting to observe that he did not show any revenge towards any of them. There were no signs of retaliation for what they had done to him. They were silent about their "sins" towards him, about the reports sent to "Kozyak" and the US. This unspoken public reconciliation balanced the political processes, opening up possibilities for finding a way out of even the most complex situations. Peevski proved to be the prepared person precisely for managing these balances as part of his leadership.

After the meeting of the CS of MRF, Delyan Peevski announced that he will run for the position of chairman of MRF at the upcoming national conference. He emphasized that he will be the only candidate.

Although he called him a "phenomenon," Dogan was against Peevski becoming the leader of the party. He knew his power. But he didn't say anything publicly.

However, the structures started to nominate Peevski. A wave was formed, and there was no turning back. So, in order to diminish his ambitions, Dogan decided to put a second person by his side. Rumors began to circulate that the "Turkish factors" would not accept a Bulgarian standing at the head of the "Turkish ethnic party." This served Dogan's thesis.

On November 22, in the article "Ethno-Revolution in MRF", I wrote:

"It seems like a wave is passing, which will fulfill the "big dream" of Dogan since 2006 - to have the leader of MRF be called Ivan, not Hasan". Dogan expressed his disagreement with my article. In Turkey, they were supposed to be dissatisfied. In his only interview since resigning, Mustafa Karadayi stated that some media outlets and journalists are trying to push a new "rebirth process" and literally quoted passages from my article.

It became clear to me that the tension between Dogan and Peevski has become serious.

THE TRIAL OF TYURKYAN CHESHMA

On December 26, 2023, Peevski stood before the crowd at the commemorative rally in the village of Mogilyane, after bowing before the monument-fountain of the youngest victim of the so-called "revival process" - 17-month-old Tyurkyan. He had a sober face, extremely concentrated - this is a sacred place for Bulgarian Turks and he knew - if they accept him here, he has succeeded. He was greeted by thousands of ethnic Turks with applause and his emotional speech ended with: "I love you", "MRF will guarantee that the totalitarian regime will never return to Bulgaria and the events from 39 years ago will not be repeated."

The atmosphere was charged with a sense of pain, anger and reconciliation. For many years, I have been going to Tuyrkyan fountain on this day and I know the pain of these people, who continue to have not received retribution for the sacrifices they made under the totalitarian regime. However, Peevski was experiencing this atmosphere for the first time. "At the grave of little Tuyrkyan, her brother asked me if there would be punishment for what happened in those tragic days. I answered that there was. And I have remained alive to see it. On this day, 39 years later, we still seek justice, which means we have a lot to do," he said at the rally and promised them: "We will stand by you, I give you my word."

But his greatest emotional challenge came hours later. After the official part, Peevski, on behalf of the PG of MRF, hosted lunch for almost 600 evicted people, and that's when he came face to face with their problems, which have been plaguing them for decades: their years spent in prison are not recognized for their retirement, there are no agents of the SS (State Security) who have been among them and have destroyed human fates. This topic was new to Peevski. And for the first time, the question arose: what has Dogan been doing all this time and why has he left these problems to stir? The topic of retribution from the so-called Revival Process was put on the agenda by Peevski.

CHAKAROV - CO-CHAIR TO RESTRAIN PEEVSKI

During this time, relations between Dogan and Peevski are constantly fluctuating. They have arguments, then make up - they are like father and son. But no one backs down from their positions. Peevski is determined to go all the way because he is convinced that he has done so much for the MRF party and it is time for him to take the lead. Dogan, on the other hand, knowing his character, does not want this to happen and wonders what "handcuffs" he can put on him.

And he comes up with it - he puts Jevdet Chakarov next to him. The two are completely opposite in nature. Trying to achieve harmony between them was absurd. Peevski took this as an insult. But everyone had to compromise a little for the sake of peace. Dogan was forced to accept Peevski as the future leader of the DPS party, and Peevski had to accept Chakarov - otherwise everything would have exploded. "In the name of bringing peace, they clenched their teeth.

Dogan was nowhere to be seen again. People were waiting to see him. The structures wanted him to give them a sign.

Once again, in a written position, they assigned roles to the two of them. "Dr. Dzhevdet Chakarov will mostly take responsibility for our traditional regions, our good neighborly relations with the Republic of Turkey and with liberal formations. Mr. Delyan Peevski represents the new generation of technocrats in politics, who have an inherent instinct for pragmatic problem-solving for the benefit of the people and the country. In a short period of time, he has emerged as a parliamentarian and it would be positive for him to continue to establish himself in this direction. Our party is focused on his commitment to expanding the electoral presence of DPS."

The co-chairmanship proved fatal for both Dogan and MRF. However, they will realize this later.

Peevski, on the other hand, achieved an important agreement - despite being co-chair, he will be the sole chairman of the party's parliamentary group and his signature will be the only one valid in parliament.

NATIONAL CONFERENCE, AMENDMENT OF THE STATUE - BOTH TOGETHER AND SEPARATELY RESPONSIBLE FOR MRF

On February 24, 2023, MRF holds its National Conference, which elects the two co-chairs. They stand next to each other, their faces showing tension and hidden intolerance. The hero of the conference is Peеvsky, who is applauded by the entire European liberal family from the first row in the hall. The MRF statute is amended - both co-chairs are responsible for the party together and separately. This statue norm later plays a dramatic role in the explosive split that occurred only months later.

Peevski and Chakarov start to lead the party in tandem, but it's only on paper. The tired Chakarov can't keep up with Peevski's energy and productivity. Tension begins to simmer in the group, fueled by Chakarov and Atalay, who feel overshadowed by Peevski.

THE SINFUL LOVE AFFAIR OF CC-DB AND PEEVSKI

Shortly after the MRF conference, a favorable attitude towards Ahmed Dogan began to be noticed in the backstage of parliamentary politics by the leader of "Yes, Bulgaria," Hristo Ivanov. For the audience, this sounded like cynicism, as the "heroic" appearance of Hristo Ivanov on the beach in front of the summer house of Dogan in "Rosenech" three years earlier, marked the beginning of the CC-DB's attack on the government in the country.

But for Hristo Ivanov's morals, this was a minor detail. And so the "sinful love" affair between PP-DB and Delian Peevski began. With the votes of MRF, Hristo Ivanov imposed changes to the Constitution and it was only fair for MRF to officially enter the "assembly". Peevski was legitimized, Daniel Lorere of CC declared that he is now a new person, needed by the Management of Change. Prime Minister Nikolay Denkov did not stop seeking his help in resolving complex cases. This continued until the last days of 2023, which finalized the adoption of the changes to the Constitution.

Suddenly, in the first days of 2024, Hristo Ivanov made a 180-degree turn and announced: "Enough with the MRF! We have accepted the Constitution, end of partnership with MRF. After the rotation, we and GERB will share the regulators in a 50:50 ratio, we accept the reform of the judicial system. In an open interview with "Free Europe," the leader of the right even called for a partnership with Dogan to eliminate Peevski. This was a shock to both Peevski and the right-wing. But it shed light on the connection between Dogan and Hristo Ivanov. Shortly after that, the coalition fell apart and the rotation fell through. This leads to the idea that Dogan may have sought assistance from the right-wing in order to stop Peevski and found resonance with his intentions from Hristo Ivanov.

MRF- SECOND POLITICAL FORCE. PEEVSKI BRINGS IN 47 DEPUTIES, DOGAN DOES NOT CONGRATULATE HIM.

The first six months of 2024 passed in scandals over the broken coalition. The CC-DB started sinking in explanatory mode, revealing how many times each one had coffee with Peevski and what they discussed.

On June 9th, 2024, early parliamentary elections were held, in which MRF, to everyone's surprise, came out on top - winning second place and securing 47 seats in parliament. The victory was stunning, and the party immediately rushed to gain control - just as it had promised during the entire campaign. CVs of candidates at all levels of state power began to be collected in party structures. Peevski was at the peak of success, receiving ovations. But he lacked one greeting - from the honorary chairman. Dogan did not congratulate Peevski, nor the MRF, nor the deputies on their victory.

Peevski saw this as a signal of a serious problem between the two: he did not acknowledge my success!

FIRST CRUCIAL CONFLICT - June 2024

In mid-June, the honorary chairman invites him for a conversation in his summerhouse in Bojana. Serious sparks fly between the two.

Dogan insists that Dzhevdet Chakarov become co-chair of the MRF PG, as per the regulations, which goes against his own promise to leave parliamentary matters to Peevski and have Chakarov handle affairs in Turkey. Peevski does not agree, reminding him that this is a red line for him. He explains that he cannot work with Chakarov. "Father" and "son" separate coldly - each staying in their position.

On June 17, Dogan called Peevski on the phone and ordered him to comply with the statute regarding Chakarov's co-chairmanship in the MRF  parliamentary group.

Peevski refused. Dogan has never ordered him to do anything. Everything has been achieved in agreement and mutual respect. Peevski has the confidence that this party, as much as it belongs to Dogan, also belongs to him, because in the last 19 years the entire party life has been carried out with his active assistance and financing.

After receiving Peevski's refusal, Dogan tells him: "In that case, you will have to leave the party."

The response he hears in the receiver literally shocks him. "No, you will leave the party!" says Peevski.

Peevski's reaction is so unexpected that Dogan is silent for a while, and then in a cold and gentle tone he says, "Think about it, let's talk tomorrow. We need to sort things out."

The next day, instead of sorting things out, Dogan's secretary Birshen Ibrahimova shows him an email on her phone, in which Dogan orders Peevski to follow the statue.

Then she prints out the email on paper.

Peevski crumples it up and throws it in the trash.

At this moment, their relationship is severed. Dramatically and irreversibly. 19 years of shared life, shared ideas, shared setbacks and shared successes are disappearing into oblivion.

The strong egos of both will not allow them to take a step towards each other.

Dogan has never allowed someone to override his word, break his hegemony, or not obey him. In his mind, this is an absent category. Quite the opposite - he retaliates against anyone who opposes him to the point of erasing them from his consciousness. At the same time, Dogan is aware that Peevski is not a puppet, he knows that their relationship can only be on equal terms. But he does not accept this tone.

Peevski, on the other hand, feels betrayed, offended - he has done so much for Dogan, given so much to the party, that he cannot understand how this is so easily erased.

Both remain silent - in front of the party and in front of the media.

Peevski still harbors hope that Dogan will change. This does not happen.

The days are tense. Peevski is making moves to show that the respect towards Dogan as a father remains. He is making repeated attempts for a meeting. He covers the usual monthly financial obligations of the Honorary. Hundreds of thousands!

There is no reaction from the palace.

Dogan has cut off and categorically closed this door.

THE PARTY BEGINS TO SPLIT - THE FATAL VOTE FOR ZHELYAZKOV'S FIRST CABINET

Meanwhile, Peevski removes from key positions individuals who either did not perform well during the campaign, or there are rumors against them in the structures, or they are affiliated with Dogan's circle. One of those excluded is Ramadan Atalay - Dogan's closest associate since the creation of MRF. By their own will, the group also leaves Filiz Husmenova, who withdraws from parliament. Peevski dismisses Dogan's secretary - Birsen Ibramova. A raid by the Commission for Combating Corruption and Withdrawn Assets leads to the arrest of former regional chair of the MRF party Sali Tabakov in Varna, who was extremely close to Dogan.

The party begins to slowly break apart.

On July 3, 2023, the GERB cabinet with interim-Prime Minister Rosen Zhelyazkov is voted in parliament.

It was already known that they would pass with the votes of MRF and a few other representatives - everyone expected a government to be formed.

Upon entering the parliament building, Ramadan Atalay informs waiting journalists that honorary chair of DPS Ahmed Dogan has ordered for the party not to support the GERB-UDF cabinet. Atalay reveals that there is a rift between MRF co-chairman Delyan Peevski and the founder and honorary chair of the party, Ahmed Dogan.

The news spreads like wildfire. Peevski is shocked. “ He learns from the television that Dogan orders him not to support the government, which is a contradiction to the whole pre-election concept of MRF - to form a cabinet at all costs.

At 9:00 am, a meeting of the MRF group begins, at which Atalay dismisses the honorary arrangements to the deputies. Yordan Tsonov asks on what grounds the party's course is changing, since two weeks earlier during consultations with the president they had stated that they would vote "for" the cabinet of the first political force and this is documented in their program declaration from the podium of the National Assembly. Atalay responds that the honorary chairman does not give arguments for his positions, but gives orders to vote this way.

Then Delyan Peevski hits the table literally and says, "We will not obey!" "We will vote for the cabinet".

He addresses the media and explains his motivation for not obeying Dogan: "I will fulfill the will of the people. I have seen the people all over the country, they want a government. Bulgaria needs a government. We must take care of our people. As the leader of the MRF, I am only accountable to the people of the MRF. This is in accordance with the MRF constitution. The MRF is run by its chairman".

The same day, Atalay is expelled from the group, which is splitting.

DOGAN'S BLOODY LETTER

A week later, on July 10, 2023, Ahmed Dogan calls for the resignation of the co-chair of the Movement Delyan Peevski and five other leaders of the party. In an extremely sharp letter addressed to deputies, he accuses them of violating the regulations, attempting a coup within the party, and using shady tactics, "uncharacteristic of MRF". The honorary chairman appeals to the six of them with the phrase "it's too late, darling, for a bouquet", referencing calls from Peevski to bury the tomahawks and not tear apart the party. The letter to the deputies is not handwritten, it was sent from the email MRF-Dogan and ends with the words "Always yours, Ahmed Dogan".

Two hours later, Peevski responds even more decisively: "I will not give up and I will not betray the people who have placed their trust in me! I am not a traitor! No one can stop the New Beginning!". In his statement, Peevski doubts that the letter demanding his resignation was actually written by Dogan. "As presented, something sent by a group of faction members raises legitimate doubts about its authenticity. But even if this is the case, what happens next? Is this the climax of the fight for democracy, rights and legality or an authoritarian attempt incompatible with the rule of law?" reads part of his response.

And he directs his accusation towards Dogan: "At the peak of MRF, which we brought to the second political force and the record-breaking for all 34 years number of deputies, whose will is it to break this success!?.. And who will take responsibility in front of those who voted for us and entrusted us with their hopes for their own lives!? Or are they once again asked to remain silent and obey the leadership that has used them for so long. This is unacceptable and impossible. And no, I will not give up and I will not betray the people who have entrusted me“.

Interesting is the ending of the letter from Peevski, which is marked as a postscript: „PS. Ahmed Dogan and I know each other very well and we both know the truth. History will show that I was right. No one can stop the New beginning“. And this turned out to be a fact. Peevski had read his moves very correctly. Dogan relied on the influence of the myth "Who am I!", but the reality was different.

The rift, which became public around the vote of the GERB project-cabinet with Prime Minister Rosen Zhelyazkov, sparked a wave of negative processes that effectively split the MRF.

Peevski managed to secure the MRF brand and ran in the elections under the name "MRF-NEW BEGINNING".

Dogan quickly formed the Alliance for Rights and Freedoms, with which he participated in the vote together with the farmers. People were expecting him to travel through the regions, some hoping that if he went on the ground, he would provoke a wave. This did not happen. Dogan covered himself in the headquarters, the people around him have neither charisma nor influence to revive the myth of Dogan.

This is how the "MRF pyramid" collapsed, and Dogan failed to consolidate the ethnic vote behind him to allow him to emerge with dignity from this battle he lost.

Perhaps even the purely human envy of Dogan for the results achieved by Peevski in the last early parliamentary elections played a role in the conflict and division within the party. From there, the split went through following and not following the statutory norms, every action of the two factions was challenged in court, and the intensity between the two camps led to division even within the ethnicity.

That's why I wrote: "The process is not over. A long, difficult and emotionally draining period lies ahead as the MRF will separate from itself. And Dogan will witness his creation die, crushed under the weight of his own mistakes"

My prediction came true.

I was only wrong about one thing - I thought this process would continue for a few more years.

But it ended in just 10 months.

Why did it happen so quickly?
