"This is not the budget of our dreams and I am well aware that a large part of the commitments cannot be fulfilled. This is a budget within our means, a budget focused on the basic needs of Bulgarian citizens." These were the words of Deputy Prime Minister Atanas Zafirov during a rapid-fire question session in parliament.
He emphasized that social security contributions will be raised by 0.2 percentage points, thanks to maximum insurance thresholds, in order to balance the pension system. "This budget includes very clear and strict policies to increase the incomes of all workers. Jobs and salaries are protected, with a growth of 12.6% compared to last year, meaning that 600,000 people will see an increase in their income. Businesses are being stimulated to maintain employment," he further commented.
"This budget also includes a topic - demography policy. We have put a strong emphasis on support for parents and children. 383 million euros are allocated for policies for children and families. The increase in motherhood support from 398 euros to 460 euros for the second year," he explained the budget parameters. He concluded that this budget is one of the most social ones in recent years. It's not a reason for pride. We are aware that it's not enough, but these are the current boundaries," the Deputy Prime Minister concluded.
