Slovenian Prime Minister Janez Janša said Ljubljana would block Serbia’s European integration until Belgrade hands over documents concerning Slovenia from the archives of the former Yugoslav secret services.
“We welcome any possible decision by the new Serbian authorities to accelerate accession negotiations with the EU. However, we will not agree to any progress until Serbia hands over to Slovenia all the archives of the State Security Administration and other former Yugoslav secret services related to Slovenia,” Janša wrote in a statement on X.
Earlier, European Commissioner for Enlargement Marta Kos said that “the door to the EU is open for Serbia.”
Janša has repeatedly claimed that Kos collaborated with the Yugoslav secret services. He has said that documents confirming this are held in the Belgrade archives.
Because of these allegations, the Slovenian prime minister has called for the commissioner’s resignation. His latest statement links Serbia’s progress on its path toward the EU to Belgrade transferring the archival documents to Ljubljana.
