President Iliana Yotova gave a 30-minute briefing for the media at the "Dondukoff" 2 building, after previously handing over a mandate for the formation of a government to the candidate she nominated for interim prime minister, Andrey Gyurov.
The head of state attempted to justify her decision on choosing Gyurov, who is a prominent political figure as he was the leader of the parliamentary group of "We Continue the Change" party.
Yotova was asked if she had consulted with former president Rumen Radev on who would be the most suitable candidate for prime minister, meaning if Gyurov's candidacy was coordinated with him. "The President did not directly answer the question, but instead admitted that they had disputes with Rumen Radev in the past and turned to him saying that if they want to maintain their good relationship in the future, everyone should make their own decisions.
"We had a very good team with Mr. Radev for 9 years, and one of the prerequisites for that was that each person made their own decisions. When I had my criticisms or disagreements, or a different opinion about Mr. Radev's decisions, I always expressed my opinion in an honest and open dialogue. He was the President and expressed the position of the presidential institution.
Mr. Radev knows very well that if we decide to maintain our good relationship in the future, it is better for each person to continue making their own decisions," she shared.
