Our deputy mayor, Iliyan Pavlov, is resigning. This morning he made the decision. The municipal council members of "Save Sofia" are breaking away as a group and leaving the coalition with "Continuing the Change - Democratic Bulgaria". This was announced by the leader of "Save Sofia", Boris Bonev. The party "Save Sofia" is withdrawing its trust from the mayor of Sofia, Vasil Terziev.
I have been summoned by the executive council of "Save Sofia" to announce three important decisions of our party, Bonev added. He pointed out that these decisions were not easy, but necessary given the current situation.
According to him, the reconstruction, traffic, and dirty air continue to be a problem. This is not about emotions or drama, but taking political responsibility, Bonev said. "
He pointed out that the main reason for leaving the coalition is that the coalition agreement is not being followed.
"The second reason is that the coalition's election program is not being followed. We see indifference, lack of energy and avoidance of responsibility.
The third reason that "Save Sofia" is losing confidence in Terziev is the parallel municipality and the hidden behind-the-scenes power of consultants close to Mayor Vasil Terziev," Bonev stated in his motives.
"It is unacceptable for "Save Sofia" to be a facade. People were expecting change, and instead, they got a substitution. Sofia needs leadership and a clear vision. Terziev did not understand how to govern Sofia, he bears responsibility as a person who was entrusted with hopes and dreams. He did not realize this responsibility."
"For us, this is irresponsible behavior and we cannot tolerate it," Bonnev stated. The party declares that they still have many common causes with the coalition "We continue the change - Democratic Bulgaria" (DB-PP) and that they will now be a constructive opposition in the Municipal Council of Sofia. "It didn't become clear to Vasil Terziev's team that they did not win these elections as a standalone unit. They won them because a huge team of experts and professionals believed that we could change Sofia. We witnessed the trampling of the coalition agreement and the necessary reforms in Sofia did not begin. There is no clear political responsibility and the pre-election promises are not being fulfilled," Bonnev said. Boris Bonnev stated that behind the visibly appointed officials in the Sofia Municipal Council, there is an informal and hidden backstage power held by associates of the mayor. “Тодор Александров”, считан за главната връзка между кварталите на града.
According to him, Terziev has appointed consultants and advisors who make essential decisions without coordinating with the coalition and municipal councilors. "The rumor is that Taki is the new face who will take over the mess in Sofia. The rumors floating around the municipal council unfortunately often turn out to be true," Bonev added. Last week it became clear that the prosecutor's office is expected to make a statement on a report from Dimitar Petrov, director of the "Traffic Analysis" department, which reveals that the Deputy Mayor of Transport of Sofia Municipality, Iliyan Pavlov, has been involved in corrupt practices. The case became known since January but, according to Novini.bg, a decision from the prosecutor's office is also expected this week.
At that time, the municipal councilors from GERB-SDS in Sofia brought up the signal concerning the chaos on the route, including "Todor Alexandrov" Boulevard, considered to be the main connection between the city's neighborhoods.
"Patriarch Evtimii" and "Vitosha" in the center of the capital city.
According to information, the report has been on the mayor's desk since last year. It states that "the actions and inactions of the deputy mayor of the Department of Transport and Urban Mobility lead to financial damages for the municipality, as well as deliberate concealment of information and/or misleading the mayor of the Sofia Municipality, the municipal council and the citizens of the city."
In February, the leader of "Save Sofia" complained with a megaphone in hand that "deputy mayor of Sofia for transport Iliyan Pavlov will be publicly arrested for a show, just to have a photo and footage in the media."
According to unofficial information, it becomes clear that the deputy mayor of Sofia saved a private company a fee of 120,000 leva (Bulgarian currency) to the municipality, with only one letter.
If the information is confirmed, it will be a precedent - under the current Anti-Corruption Signals Act, this will be the highest-ranking official found guilty of violations by a reporting employee.
