The certification of the type of technical devices for machine voting to be used in the elections for president and vice president on October 25, 2026, has been completed. The Ministry of Innovation and Digital Transformation announced the development.
The minister of innovation and digital transformation, the acting chair of the Bulgarian Institute of Metrology, and the chair of the Management Board of the Bulgarian Institute for Standardization issued a decision certifying the type of voting machines.
The decision was based on technical reports prepared by certification teams working in the three institutions. It confirms that the technical devices for machine voting comply with the Election Code and the requirements of the technical specification.
The decision was published on the ministry’s website together with the conformity assessment report. The report records the results and findings from the process of checking the machines.
The ministry said qualified external experts were also brought into the process through a transparent selection procedure, with the aim of making the certification as professional, verifiable and open as possible.
The report and the decision have been sent to the Central Election Commission. Its chair, Georgi Horozov, said that once the documents were received, the commission would proceed with installing the software on the voting machines and then verifying them.
