The Bulgarian state, through "Bulgarian Energy Holding" (BEH), will participate in a exploration for oil and gas in the Black Sea. Our country will have a 10% stake in the project, together with companies OMV and NewMed. This was announced by the outgoing Energy Minister, Zhelyo Stankov, cited by NOVA.
"For the first time in our new history, the state will not only benefit from concession fees, but will actively participate with a stake in the search and exploration," Stankov said. He also explained that after negotiations, an agreement was reached for Bulgaria to owe nothing for the three already completed wells and to only invest in the next two.
The outgoing Minister emphasized the strategic importance of the decision for our energy security, giving the example of Turkey and Romania, which have already discovered deposits near the Bulgarian border. "This decision will ensure the security of energy supply," added Zhecho Stankov.
