Jabs between the government and the opposition continue amid a dispute over a proposal concerning the taxation and gifting of homemade rakia.
Asen Vasilev, leader of We Continue the Change, has sharply criticised the idea of imposing an excise duty on homemade rakia. In a post on Facebook, he offered an ironic response, saying he had found a way to avoid a possible fine from the National Revenue Agency.
“While we wait for Galab Donev to ‘edit’ the absurd ban on giving away homemade rakia, some friends and I went ahead and drank the rakia. Just to be safe,” Vasilev wrote.
Alongside the post, he showed part of his refrigerator. A bottle of homemade rakia could be seen next to a bottle of vinegar.
Vasilev also explained why he keeps vinegar in the refrigerator: “It does not form sediment and there are no little flies.” He added that he had learned this from his grandmother, not from chemistry lessons.
