Two lieutenant colonels and two majors were aboard the Russian Tu-95MS strategic bomber that crashed in the Amur Region on September 29. A total of eight people were killed in the accident.
At least three of the Russian victims had been involved in supporting and organizing missile strikes against Ukraine. They had also personally taken part in issuing and carrying out orders to launch air-launched cruise missiles at densely populated cities, as well as energy and civilian infrastructure sites that were not military targets.
Fuel ignition was previously cited as the preliminary cause of the crash. Initial reports said that seven people had been aboard the military aircraft, with six service members killed and one person hospitalized with injuries.
There were also reports that the aircraft was probably carrying cruise missiles. It had taken off for a redeployment to Olenya airfield.
