Voting machines for the upcoming presidential and vice-presidential runoff will not arrive in time at polling stations in Tenerife, Montreal 1 and Atlanta. Alina Dobreva announced this during a meeting of Bulgaria’s Central Election Commission (CEC).
Paper ballots have already been secured in Tenerife and Montreal 1, meaning voting there will be conducted on paper. Efforts are still under way to find a way to deliver ballots to the polling station in Atlanta. Dobreva said information would be provided promptly on whether the delivery could be completed.
There are also delivery problems involving paper ballots in the Australian cities of Adelaide, Brisbane and Melbourne. Because of the time difference, ballots for these polling stations need to be sent as quickly as possible.
Delays have also been reported for polling stations in the United States, in Denver, Minneapolis, Nashville and Charlotte. Ballots have already been delivered to Sydney, while delivery to Canberra is expected shortly.
The CEC is due to decide what instructions to give polling station commissions in Australia and to four or five polling stations in the United States. The aim is to ensure that voting can take place despite the delivery difficulties.
