Filling a standard 50-litre tank with diesel in Bulgaria now costs close to €95. Drivers pay an average of €83 for the same amount of A-95 petrol, according to fuel-price data as of October 8.
The average price of the most widely used petrol is €1.66 per litre, while diesel is selling at an average of €1.89 per litre. Liquefied petroleum gas costs about €0.60, and the average price of natural gas is €1.49 per kilogram.
The difference between petrol and diesel has reached €0.23 per litre. As a result, filling a 50-litre tank with diesel costs €11.50 more than filling it with the same amount of petrol.
Fuel prices declined slightly over the past week, but the decrease has not offset the rise recorded in September. Over the past 30 days, petrol has become 5.7% more expensive and diesel 4.2% more expensive. On a weekly basis alone, their prices fell by 0.6% and 0.5%, respectively.
The change is also clear when prices are compared with the end of August. At that time, petrol cost an average of €1.57 per litre and diesel €1.81 per litre. Even after the latest decline, filling 50 litres of petrol now costs about €4.50 more, while the same amount of diesel costs approximately €4 more.
Despite the increase, Bulgaria remains among the European Union countries with the cheapest fuel. Petrol prices in the country are about 17% below the EU average, while diesel is nearly 12% below it.
Prices are expected to rise in the coming days. Oil has climbed back above the $100 threshold and was trading at more than $104 per barrel on Thursday.
