Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov declined to comment on claims that the sale of Russian oil giant Lukoil’s foreign assets had been included in talks between Moscow and Washington on ending the war in Ukraine.
“I will not comment on this particular report,” Peskov said at a briefing. He added, however, that the issue of possible cooperation in the energy sector had indeed been raised during discussions with American representatives.
Media reports in recent days have said that special envoys of Donald Trump and Moscow discussed a deal involving Lukoil’s international assets as part of negotiations aimed at ending the war.
The same reports said that Russian President Vladimir Putin personally raised the issue of selling the assets during his meeting at the Kremlin on September 5. The move was intended to demonstrate that business relations between Russia and Washington could be possible.
