Stoyan Trichkov, a lawmaker from Progressive Bulgaria, said that the CITUB protests had been coordinated with GERB and DPS. He made the comment amid the union’s national campaign for higher incomes and the dispute over the 2027 budget.
“I cannot fail to see political influence, because Plamen Dimitrov’s adviser is now Yordan Tsonev, the former right-hand man of DPS leader Delyan Peevski, who has been sanctioned by the United States and the United Kingdom under the global Magnitsky law,” Trichkov said.
The lawmaker provided no additional evidence for his claim that the protests were politically coordinated. His position followed CITUB’s announcement of the national campaign “For Higher Incomes!”, which includes a protest and a motorcade in Sofia.
Trichkov said the governing majority was ready to hear reasoned positions from unions and employers. He said talks among the three sides on setting the minimum wage had already taken place.
He explained that the government had included in the budget only measures considered possible at this stage. His remarks indicated that the governing parties were prepared to discuss measures aimed at improving people’s lives, but were unlikely to retreat from the main parameters of the draft 2027 budget.
Progressive Bulgaria is focusing on funding for children, mothers, school pupils and university students. The party’s stated priorities include increasing child allowances and maternity payments during the second year.
“We have no concerns about telling the truth,” Trichkov added.
CITUB is calling for higher incomes and continued budget talks. The governing majority, meanwhile, signals that it will take part in negotiations but does not plan a substantial departure from the proposed financial framework.
