Many observers these past few days have been scratching their heads over the question - who, how and why did the negotiations between GERB-UDF and DB fail.
I have an answer - Hristo Ivanov. And I will argue my point. The former chairman of "Yes, Bulgaria", who resigned, surprisingly appeared as if from the beyond in the negotiation team of DB and energetically started pulling strings from behind, writing legislative texts, setting conditions, insisting on personnel appointments and... naturally at one point all of this exploded on the table.
In the same way, a year ago and a few months ago, he was the main factor in writing the new texts for changes in the Constitution. Borisov had elevated him to the greatest legal expert (even though in reality he was "the biggest legal zero in parliamentary circles") and said: "Whatever Hristo decides, that will be - we will just support him!" And he ordered his own to vote like blind men. Later it became clear that Hristo "the legal zero" created a big nothing, which, however, caused the state to face a constitutional crisis.
But at the same time, Hristo Ivanov was appointing at the highest level. And now, notice - while sitting in the lap of Peevski and drinking his greasy Turkish coffee, the leader of "Yes, Bulgaria" offers a VIP deal to the leader of MRF- Peevski to support his candidacy for president in two years in exchange for Hristo Ivanov's promise to make him prime minister.
Someone may say that these are delusions, products of sick minds! No, they are not! This is the true face of Hristo Ivanov - the most failed politician since Jean Videnov, as recently defined by Borislaw Tsekov.
And yet another incident revealing Hristo Ivanov's indecent image. It is well known that Hristo Ivanov's lifelong dream is to become a chief prosecutor or at least to place his loyal Sorosoids in this position. That is why for decades he has been constantly scheming against the current chief prosecutors, hoping to reach the coveted throne.
Hristo Ivanov wanted Andrey Yankulov to be either chief prosecutor or head of the Commission for Combating Corruption and Forfeiture of Illegally Acquired Assets. He wanted all regulators to be his people, he wanted to control the judiciary system, in order to be able to "arrest" - from partners to opponents. A sinister figure who was allowed to destroy in order to satisfy his sick ambitions. His reform was not a reform, but a legalized political manipulation of the judicial system. And that's why nothing ever happened.
So, in the end of 2023, in the midst of negotiations for changes in the Constitution, Hristo Ivanov is in Delian Peevski's office every day, drinking Turkish coffee, feverishly writing constitutional texts and "milking the state".
And one beautiful morning, he offers Peevski the following deal, which is simply unbelievable: "If you support me for chief prosecutor, I promise you two things - by mid-2024, I will return your children's American passports, and by the end of 2024, I will take you off the Magnitsky list." This, of course, made Peevski's blood boil. "Out," he shouted, opening the door to his office. Then he went out and told the media about the "greasy Turkish coffee" that the "little cunning Scheherazade" had drank in his lap. But he didn't tell the whole truth. He avoided the disgusting deal proposed by Hristo Ivanov, in which part of the price was his children. "The masks must fall, Hristo, I want you to know, my friend, it's all over," Peevski said then. But Hristo Ivanov's mask did not fall...
Despite all this, despite the damage he caused to the state, to constitutionalism and to parliamentarism, the swindler once again tried to be a factor in politics. After leaving politics, he still wanted to return to power. And again he wanted to play behind the scenes. This time Borissov refused him. After accepting all of DB's proposals for the future governance of the state, including stopping the election of Sarafov as chief prosecutor. He made compromises that no other political force would accept.
This time, however, Hristo Ivanov went too far and provoked both Borisov, who blindly followed him for over a decade...
Remarkably, the negotiations now failed in the same way as they did in February 2024, when the rotation collapsed. But that does not mean that negotiations will not be held for a cabinet with GERB-UDF's mandate. It is likely that they will be held. There are chances, there are formulas for a government. But the Soros-like figure, from whom even "Kozyak" distanced themselves, has already been eliminated. Long ago!
And let me remind you: Since 1996, Until 2014, before becoming Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Justice, Hristo Ivanov was first a coordinator within the Law Independence Initiative of the American Bar Association, and then a program director for the Bulgarian Institute for Legal Initiatives foundation, focusing on projects in the areas of judicial and legislative reforms. This was a leading position in a comprehensive, large-scale, theoretically, ideologically and financially supported plan for reforming the judicial system, based on the model of a permanent revolution, which moves slowly but resolutely and acts as a steamroller over the constitutional order.
"After achieving its goal, namely the removal of sovereign state power from legitimate institutions and placing it in the hands of non-parliamentary and undemocratic entities," explains former head of the Commission for Constitutional Change Radomir Cholakov.
